Unpublished Project - Fractured

Here's a bunch of work on the main enemies from an as yet unpublished game! For much of early development these guys were called BaBs (Bread and Butters) or FULGs (Fucked Up Little Guys), as they were going to be the most basic and common enemy in the game.

My co-concept artist on some of these was Nikki Dawes. https://nikkidawes.com/ Some of these concepts are paintovers of 3D models by Nestor Villegas. https://www.artstation.com/3denvy My art director for these was Ben Zweifel. https://www.artstation.com/benzweifel

Final version of the concept, painted some time later when I had some breathing room.

First round of quick sketches. There wasn't much of a direction at first except that they needed to work with a pretty standard humanoid rig to save cost and time, and that they needed to fit with this faction's weird crumbly statue vibe.

Second set of rough sketches, honing in on its gaunt proportions and weird mask-ness.

Honing in further on the design with another set of roughs, exploring some holes and cavities.

A few more mask concepts. We ended up going with a simple jade material. This is also a good illustration of its cracks, which we called the Candy Coating.

We decided not to punch completely through with holes for rigging reasons, so I did some sketches of how its weird cavities might look.
